The Lodge loves ‘Loaves of Love’

The Lodge of Dawn is delighted to have successfully sponsored a grant for £1,650 from the Provincial Grand Master’s Fund, part of West Riding Masonic Charities Ltd, for a potato peeler !!

But this is no ordinary potato peeler. This is a commercial potato peeler, which will enable the expansion of the project to cater for more of the most vulnerable in the Leeds community. The project called ‘Loaves of Love’ is run by Chabad Lubavitch Leeds. The ‘Loaves of Love’ care package delivers weekly packages of challah, chicken soup, kugel, grape juice and shabbat candles to members of the Leeds community, of all religious denominations.

Rabbi Eli Pink (pictured above with volunteers Rivkah Zivah Malkin, Menucha Rachel Habib and Chana Gabbay) of Chabad Lubavitch Leeds paid tribute to the charitable work of The Lodge of Dawn and said “it is a great example of the community giving back to help others within the community. This grant will make a real difference to our project. The grant enabled us to buy and install a commercial potato peeler in our kitchen, saving our volunteers hours of work and allowing us to expand our culinary offerings. Our volunteers and recipients will be very grateful!”

The number of food packages being distributed weekly through the project has been steadily rising and recipients have asked that they don’t end with the end of the pandemic. Over half the recipients are elderly or single person households and a third live in social housing.
