Grant secured for Leeds charity fighting period poverty

The Lodge of Dawn are delighted to announce that we have secured a grant for £4600 from the Provincial Grandmaster’s Fund for the Leeds-based Freedom4Girls. After the Lodge of Dawn put out a call for charitable causes to support towards the end of the year, we were delighted to sponsor Freedom4girls.

Freedom4Girls are a UK-registered charity fighting against period poverty by providing education, providing period products, promoting product choice and supporting environmentally and financially sustainable options.

Preceptor W Bro. Raymond Diamond and Charity Steward W Bro. Michael Rose both worked hard on making sure the application was successful. “It makes me proud to be a Freemason in general, and a member of The Lodge of Dawn in particular” said W Bro. Diamond.

In a letter to the lodge, Freedom4Girls said “Many thanks for your support and the grant of £4,600. As a small, grassroots charitable organisation that is run almost exclusively by volunteers, we are incredibly grateful for every penny we receive towards supporting women and girls to access period products and ending stigma surrounding menstruation. We are currently running several projects in the UK, Kenya and Uganda. In the UK, we provide both disposable and reusable period products to those who struggle to access them, primarily within West Yorkshire. We also deliver a comprehensive menstrual health management education and empowerment programme that aims to directly tackle stigma around periods. Generous donations such as yours, help us to continue and develop all these projects. Your grant will go a long way to help support our Make A Switch Campaign.”
