Leeds Masters Night 2023

Each masonic year the masters of 20 Leeds Freemasons’ lodges form what is known as the ‘Leeds Masters Circle’. Every master from each lodge during their year in The Chair hosts a ‘Masters Night’, inviting all of the other masters in his circle to a ceremony. Tuesday 28th February was The Lodge of Dawn’s Masters Night, being the lodge’s first Masters Night held since 2020.

The Lodge of Dawn were delighted to host 12 Leeds Masters representing the following Leeds lodges;

The Leeds Masters were able to witness a well-delivered Second Degree ceremony followed by a Festive Board with a great atmosphere. In total there were 30 visitors from 16 different lodges and a total of 68 diners at a very lively Festive Board. These included members of the 2019/20 and 2020/21 Masters Circle and also those from the 2011/2012 Circle.

The history of the Leeds Masters Circle goes back to 1921 when W Bro. Hurtley of Goderich Lodge No 1211 regularised the occasional fraternal visits of Masters of the Leeds Lodges by forming the ‘Circle of the Reigning Masters of Leeds’. From this initiative the ‘Circles’ began. There are numerous Lodges within the environs of Leeds and, of these, 20 have come together to visit each other on ‘Masters’ Nights’. The main function of the Circle is to introduce the Masters of the Lodges to each other and to the brethren of their respective Lodges. The Circles have also become the source of lasting and valuable friendships which have endured for many years. Fraternal visits of past Circles are also welcome in every lodge.
